Stanley Vale Merino stud is a leading Superfine Merino Stud in Australia suppling rams to both commercial and stud clients. Rams are available year round through an annual on-property sale, selected multi-vendor sales such as the Armidale Housed Ram Sale and by private arrangement. Whilst maintaining the traditional wool style and micron sought by the Italian Superfine market Stanley Vale aims to produce rams with higher fleece weights and body weights that are resilient to harsh winters. Over the last 5 years the clip has averaged less than 16.5um at shearing across the whole flock with the 2015 shearing average
Stanley Vale produces well-grown rams with high fleece weights and a traditional wool style and micron sought after by the Italian Superfine market. In the last few years fleece weights have increased by ~20% due to an increased emphasis on individual performance, the adoption of ASBVs (Australian Sheep Breeding Values) and continued use of the best genetics. All Stanley Vale stud rams are extensively recorded for a range of fleece traits, body weight traits and other economically important traits like parasite resistance. This information is submitted to generate ASBVs. ASBVs provide a better understanding of the true genetic potential of
Stanley Vale rams are productive well grown rams with heavy fleece weights and body weights for type. They have a traditional Superfine wool type and style sought after by the Italian Superfine market. The average micron of the whole wool clip is 16.5um and the average micron of the stud rams at first shearing has consistently been 15.6um.
All our semen sires also have Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVS) in addition to fleece test results and other key measurements.
In addition to offering flock and stud rams for sale Stanley Vale also has semen available from current and historical high performing rams.
In 2011 Stanley Vale began submitting data to MerinoSelect to obtain Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVS) on stud rams. ASBVs provide an estimate of a ram’s true genetic merit. Stanley Vale uses MerinoSelect ASBVs as another tool alongside traditional visual classing techniques in assessing our rams and to guide our breeding decisions. We have found ASBVs provide valuable information on our sheep as it is only the parts of an animal’s physical appearance that is due to its DNA that can be passed onto progeny. Our ASBVs are also a valuable benchmarking tool enabling us to compare our rams’ performance against

Our annual sale of surplus ewes represents a valuable opportunity for those wishing to increase their flock size or rebuild after a tough season. As our stud rams are used in our commercial flock our surplus ewes share the same traits and attributes as our rams. They are well –grown ewes who cut a traditional Italian spinners type fleece averaging 16-17um in mature ewes. All our ewes are sold with sound mouths and udders and commonly have an average body weight of 60kg. Surplus ewes are typically offered for sale at our on property sale on the first Friday in February.
