Lamb and mutton prices ease

Eastern states lamb yardings, reported by the National Livestock Reporting Service, were only 2% lower week-on-week, at 147,435 head. Eastern states mutton supply was unchanged for the week on 53,902 head.

Young lamb numbers were firm this week, with consignments in NSW around 35,000 head, while in Victoria only around 5,000 head were on offer. 

At the conclusion of Thursday’s markets:

The eastern states restocker lamb indicator was 7¢ lower on 542¢/kg cwt Merino lambs decreased 10¢ to 519¢, while light lambs were 3¢ higher on 542¢/kg cwt The Eastern States Trade Lamb Indicator (ESTLI) lost 13¢ to settle on 579¢/kg cwt The heavy lamb indicator was 9¢ lower on 585¢/kg cwt The mutton indicator decreased 7¢ to finish on 368¢/kg cwt
