Hurry... Sire nominations for Resource Flock close 18th October!

Nominations are now being accepted by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) for the 2016 Resource Flock joining.  While the focus will be on Merinos, Poll Dorsets, Border Leicesters, White Suffolks and Dohnes, all breeds are encouraged to nominate.

The selection criteria will be based on relationships to sires already used in the Resource Flock, genetic diversity, and index values. We will require a minimum of 16 doses + 1 for genotyping of each ram (numbers to be finalised).

Why nominate?

Genomic data will be stored in the database for future use. e.g parentage testing Merino, Poll Dorset, Border Leicester and White Suffolk rams will receive RBVs Sires will be 700k SNP tested and DNA stored for possible future testing Smaller breeds will have linkage to the Resource Flock increasing the likelihood of RBVs being available for those breeds Linkage to the Resource Flock ensures higher accuracy RBVs for related animals in your flock

Key steps
