More drought concessional loans on the way: Federal Government drought co-ordinator

A new drought co-ordinator says the next round of drought concessional loans are 'on the cusp' of reopening and funding boosts will be announced for a list of service providers.

David Jones, from the Department of Human Services is one of seven drought co-ordinators funded by the Federal Government to promote and facilitate assistance packages in affected communities.

Derwent Valley farmers want more transparency over leases for bauxite exploration

A farmer at Ouse in Tasmania's Derwent Valley has called for improvements to the system of farmers being notified about mining exploration on their land.

The call comes as two mining companies are expected to be granted licences to explore a big area of farmland near Ouse and Hamilton.

Analyst predicts wool prices to remain high in short term due to strong demand

'Queen of Q fever' doctor corners shearers in pub with free vaccine, says very few will pay for the service

"No jab no job" policies are the driving force behind agriculture workers getting Q fever vaccinations and, without a directive from employers, shearers are failing to seek the protection according to a rural doctor.

If anyone has insight into the level of vaccination among shearers it is "Queen of Q fever", Dr Alison Gazard.

Fencers trained up in preparation for drought's end

A Western Queensland employment service has identified fencing as a growth industry once the drought breaks, so it is training job seekers for the task.

RAPAD Employment Services is helping to build a wild dog proof fence around the Longreach Pastoral College, after more than 40 sheep were killed in one recent attack.
