A Wagga Wagga magistrate has described the actions of a Junee man, who stole sheep from his neighbours, as greedy.

James Thomas Flakelar, aged 24, is facing 13 charges relating to the theft of livestock and other farming equipment around Junee, Sebastapol and Big Springs last year with Blake John Cowled

One of the properties that was targeted belonged to federal Liberal Senator, Bill Heffernan.

"Greed was the only explanation for it."

Magistrate Erin Kennedy

Magistrate Erin Kennedy part heard Flakelar's matter in Wagga Local Court on Friday describing his behaviour as unacceptable and incredibly serious.

She told the court 'greed is the only explanation'.

The court heard Flakelar's deeply sorry and ashamed of his actions and has written to the affected landholders.

It also heard Flakelar's sold a motorbike, gun and livestock in order to pay back more than $9000 in compensation to the victims.

Magistrate Kennedy's ordered a report into his suitability for an Intensive Corrections Order (ICO), which is a form of imprisonment that requires an offender to reside at a specified address, do community service and sometimes calls for electronic monitoring.

Flakelar will return to court next month.

An ICO report has also been ordered for Cowled, who will front court again in October.
