Friday daily cattle summary

Consignments at Roma Prime increased 86%, to 1,493 head. With good cow numbers penned, all the usual processors operated in what was a good quality yarding. Processors from the south took on more of a selective approach when purchasing, but overall it was a strong offering of prime cattle across the board.

Heavy C4 grown slaughter steers were down 8¢, at 274¢/kg Heavy D4 grown slaughter heifers improved 2¢, averaging 261¢/kg Heavy D4 cows jumped 2¢, at 247¢/kg

Dubbo numbers increased 4%, to 6,300 head with mostly prime conditioned cattle supplied. It was a good quality yarding, with a fair offering of cattle from the far west enticing the usual buyers that attended. Prime yearling steers sold to a dearer trend, while their female counterparts were a few cents easier.  

Heavy C3 yearling feeder steers jumped 6¢, averaging 326¢/kg Heavy C3 yearling heifers to slaughter improved 5¢, averaging 312¢/kg Heavy C4 grown steers to slaughter held firm averaging 322¢/kg Light C4 grown heifers averaged 316¢, up 19¢/kg on last week Heavy D4 cows eased 5¢, averaging 250¢/kg

Bairnsdale yarded 585 head, back 3% week-on-week. Quality was mixed and the regular buying group were in operation.

The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) settled at 564¢, back 0.50¢/kg cwt on where it finished the previous day Trade steers averaged 321¢, up 1¢/kg lwt Feeder steers averaged 314¢, up 1¢/kg lwt Medium steers averaged 302¢/kg lwt Heavy steers averaged 308¢, down 9¢/kg lwt Medium cows averaged 236¢, up 1¢/kg lwt
